I’m back on the concert scene!!! Yay!!!
After 2 years of not being able to watch a concert in Manila, I’m finally attending one! In fairness, I actually missed this – the adrenaline, and the fangirl feels!!! AAaahhh!!! I think the last concert I’ve attended was Pentatonix in Manila. It was actually during the early pandemic in 2020.
When our team were listing down our coverage assignments for 2022, I immediately volunteered for #YugyeominManila. I cannot say ‘no’ to him because he’s like a family to me(like Got7 and AOMG Family, if you know what I mean)! Plus, Yugyeom was a versatile artist – he can sing, dance, and breakdance so I know that I am in it for a show.
Yugyeom in Manila was scheduled to happen on a Friday Night and being a person who has a day job, I had to work overtime from Monday to Thursday for me to be able to take a leave on D-day to party with him. I needed this to de-stress.
D-day: Yugyeom Live in Manila
It’s D-day of Yugyeom 1st Live in Manila Concert. It was drizzling outside when I commuted to New Frontier Theater. I booked a grab car instead of taking an MRT like what I’ve used to because I am still afraid of crowded places and for some reason I didn’t seem to know how to commute anymore as I have not done that since the pandemic.
I arrived at the venue at around 3pm. As always, I came alone. I checked first the situation. When I saw that the lines for the soundcheck was still long, I went to Jollibee for a quick ‘snunch’ (combo of snack and lunch). After that, I proceeded at the Pizza Hut to meet our editor. We discussed the upcoming shows as we waited for the call-time to claim our Media Pass at the Media Booth.
At the Media Booth, we were given a strap and an ID for easy identification. We were also guided inside the Theater and given a briefing on the scope of our coverage. Inside the Theater, I’ve met my friend Ruth, A Fangirl’s Heart. She was with Anyana Cyrille, a Youtuber and my new found friend.
Yugyeom 1st Live in Manila Concert
I can’t help but scream when we went inside the concert hall. I got the feel like, Yaasss!!! This was really happening. I am really in a concert. It was so surreal. I missed this!
The Yugyeom 1st Live in Manila Concert started with DJ Wegun, our one and only DJ, playing AOMG party songs such as Mommae, Simon Dominic, Dax4, We Are, Party (Shutdown), and Got7 songs like Lullaby and Never Ever to set up the mood.
Then Ahgases began shouting Yugyeom’s name when the lights turned off and it gets even louder when Yugyeom went out to the stage singing I Want U Around.
It was followed by a heartwarming performance of songs Running Through the Rain, When U Fall, Falling In Love, All About U and Lights from his Point of View: U album.
He was becoming one with the stage when he danced to All Your Fault and Love the Way.
Everyone knew that the night was turning into a party when he started dancing to Mommae and All I Wanna Do. He even lifted his shirt playfully showing his dandelion tattoo which made us crazy. His tattoo were as beautiful as him.
Of course, being the ‘Hit the Stage’ King and Got7’s Dancing Machine, Yugyeom has to show off his freestyle and dancing abilities with Chingiz Khan dance cover. He was so good that he truly lived up to his title.
When the stage became darker by a minute, we thought that it was the end of it. Because you know, it really happens on some concerts where the concert just ends abruptly without cues that will make you say “yun na yun?” (is that it?). But lo and behold, it was just a preparation for something fun – the Got7 encore.
Yugyeom made us jump when he started singing Hard Carry. He even went down to the crowd to get close with the Ahgases. When he went to our side, my mind went haywire that I don’t know whether to capture him or look at him directly so the video I took were kind of shakey (as seen on the video below). He was so handsome, tall and his skin was very white like a snow white. I’ve seen so many K-artists when I covered concerts but it was the first time that I’ve seen a K-artist that white. OMG!
Apart from Hard Carry, he also sang 1+1 and Two. You know, it really hits different when one member sing their group’s songs and Ahgases sing along with the artist like it makes the song whole which make it special.
I am so happy to kick off my 2022 concert experience with Yugyeom Live in Manila. Everything was so amazing from the visuals to the setlist! AAaaaahh!!!
Thank you to Yugyeom’s Team for including Manila to his stops and coordinating with a great concert organizer. We truly had a blast!
See you on the next one! 😉
